The Health System Dashboard is a bi-weekly report designed to monitor and evaluate the state of Ontario’s health system. Originally developed during the COVID-19 pandemic to assess the stress on acute care, the report has grown to include insights across Home Care, Long-Term Care, and Primary Care sectors.
The primary purpose of the report is to provide clear, actionable data that supports effective decision-making. By analyzing critical metrics such as Occupancy rates, ALCs open cases, Home Care Waits and other Key Performance Indicators, the report delivers an in-depth view of system performance and trends.
This report provides a snapshot of trending data on key system performance indicators across Ontario’s health sectors, including Acute Care, Home Care, Long-Term Care, and Primary Care. It includes measures such as hospital occupancy rates, Alternate Level of Care (ALC) open cases, emergency department wait times and closures, surgery wait times and home care wait times. Data are presented at the Ontario and OH Region level.
Data is sourced from a combination of sources including the Ministry of Health’s SAS Visual Analytics tool, internal dashboards, and manual reporting streams. The report consolidates these data into a single, system-wide view to support internal and external stakeholders in understanding current pressures, identifying regional variation, and guiding responsive actions.
To ensure relevance and utility, the dashboard is refreshed bi-weekly and serves as a tool for monitoring trends, supporting operational planning, and informing system-level interventions.
Please refer to the Appendix section on the “Announcements” page on the Spring-Summer Health System Dashboard for details on Methodology.
