About Hospital Pressure Dashboard

The Hospital Pressure Dashboard provides a system-wide view of acute care capacity and flow pressures across Ontario hospitals. It summarizes key indicators related to bed occupancy, ALC volumes, and emergency demand, enabling situational awareness and timely operational decision-making. The dashboard integrates multiple daily and near-real-time data sources to give leaders a consistent view of hospital crowding and system strain.

Intended Audience

Content

The dashboard shows current and recent trends in hospital capacity and flow metrics. Users can filter by hospital, region, hospital type, and peer grouping to compare performance across similar sites.

For example, Indicators include:

All indicators use 7-day averages for the most recent available week of data. Colour gradations highlight pressure levels, with red indicating higher strain and green indicating improvement or lower occupancy.

Methodology

Indicators are calculated using standardized Ontario Health definitions for occupancy, ALC cases, and week-over-week trending.

Data sources include:

  1. i9 (Daily) for bed availability and occupancy
  2. CCIS for ICU occupancy
  3. ALC Open Cases (DBCS) for ALC volumes and destinations
  4. Other internal OH datasets to support hospital characteristics, peer grouping, and sizing

All occupancy and volume indicators represent 7-day rolling averages using the most recent complete data.

ALC case counts reflect the number of active ALC cases reported per site on the reference date.
